Every Truth has Four Corners is an exhibition featuring chosen of works from the extensive collection of Volker Diehl, a Berlin-based gallery owner and art connoisseur.
Four selected threads are represented – “A Singular View,” “The Minimal Mind,” “Building a Constructed World” and “Fetish and Fantasy” – each focusses on post-war and contemporary works that had been included in the collection over the last 40 years.
Mark Gisbourne, the curator of the exhibition, has created an unique inside, revealing outstanding works of art from all over the world. A particular emphasis is placed on Russian, German and Asian art scenes. With this emphasis we find an atypical presentation of a private collection. The epigraph of the exhibition is taken from the “Analects” of Confucius.
The exhibition is conceived in a way that encourages reflection on the collector’s international perspective, ranging from his passion for minimalist and conceptual constructions, to the powerful proclivities of fetishism and the fantastical. Although these selected areas do not reveal the entirety of the collector’s visual interests, yet they embody dominant trends in the development of the collection and the range of intellectual enquiry.
As a collector and gallery owner, Diehl has a strong background in art history. Born in 1957 he has always believed in the immediate interrelationship between personal commitments of self-acquisition and the commercial or transactional side of the art business. This was evident in the crucial role he has played in the Berlin art scene over the last four decades. He began as a personal assistant to Christos Joachimides and Norman Rosenthal during the now famous and historical ZEITGEIST exhibition in Berlin (1982). Since which time he has developed a vein of individualism and collector acquisition.
Every Truth has Four Corners is the next exhibition in OP ENHEIM presenting world art collections that was first launched in 2019.
